COVID-19 postpones 2020 NZ Barista Champs!

Sad news for coffee and competition lovers – COVID-19 has finally impacted something we actually care about, with the postponement of the 2020 Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Champs until later in 2020.

The decision, made this week by the New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association, was totally the right thing to do, especially on the back of the news that the same has happened to the Melbourne International Coffee Expo.

It sucks for everyone involved, but NZSCA must be applauded for making a quick and decisive decision, in the face of imperfect information. Awesome.

It sucks too for Logan Collinge, who we spoke to as he prepped his shoulder muscles for lifting the trophy (JK – he’s much to humble for that!).

The Barista Champs will now be held in September, but competitors, including Logan, will need to re-evaluate everything, and maybe start all the way from the beginning .

Luckily there is plenty of time to get back on that horse – so keep a look out for an upcoming post with some hints and tips on how to prepare (again).
